Mode of Session: Seminar

No. of Speakers:  14

Session Brief:

Managing information security risks are increasingly becoming important as banks and financial institutions in developing economies, especially in Asia are a key focus for hackers. Cyber thieves are well organised and use the same business strategy, risk and reward models as legitimate businesses, and in return expect the same financial return on their investment. The attacks are becoming more sophisticated  As established financial institutions become more difficult targets, the attackers are moving to new and less risk aware countries. Attacks can  range from the low grade and low skilled to more sophisticated phishing, whaling, and exploitation of well-known unpatched vulnerabilities, zero day attacks and devastating ransomware that caused havoc globally last year.

The increasing reliance on third party service providers and use of new technologies, such as the cloud services and emerging technologies such as IOT, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning bring new opportunities but also introduce complexity and consequently risks.

The risk is not just technological. People, process physical, regulatory and legal risks must also be managed. Compliance with privacy and security laws are being demanded by international customers. The implementation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) means organisations doing business in the EU, supplying services or processing personal data outside have to comply with the GDPR, regardless of where they are located. Post GDPR, emergence of new global privacy laws will mean additional regulatory risks for the Bangladeshi business sectors.

Expected Outcome:

Promote the use of risk management  to manage risks. Understand how to build confidence through the proper use of risk management frameworks and tools in financial services and the BPO sector to build resilience to existing and emerging cyber and regulatory risks.

Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology, ICT Division, BPO Companies, BPO Employees, University Students, College Students.
